My knife’s blade broke off near the handle, can you fix it?

Short answer – “no.”

When a knife blade is broken off close to the handle, there is no practical way to reattach the broken off blade to the remaining stub of knife protruding from the handle. The two sections might be able to be welded together, but that will heat up the steel so much it will ruin the heat-treatment and make the knife non-functional. This is a costly repair and should only be considered in situations where the knife is of great sentimental value.

I suggest you chock the broken knife up to a lesson-learned and just replace it with a new one.

That being said, I am very creative at regrinding knives with broken blades that have at least some blade left into useful new tools, sometimes even attractive ones, so contact me if you want to discuss what might be possible.
